Financial Controller – Digital Banking (Zurich, Switzerland)

Exceptional opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to become part of a planned next generation digital universal bank for the Swiss market from inception.

This new digital bank is well funded by a very strong Swiss investor and led by a respected CEO and successful entrepreneur. The aim is to be a true tech company driven by data, with focus on sustainability and setting new standards for banking.

Based in Zurich and launching in Q2 2021, the Financial Controller will report to the CFO and build financial monitoring systems.

Your role and responsibility

Build and continuously improve a state of the art, cost efficient and technology driven MIS and budgeting process system.

Financial accounting of the company (one accountant in place).

Managing reporting of results for our systems, cash flow and cash forecast into E-Treasury, and Tax pack reporting.

Providing relevant and timely financial information to the Directors of the business to enable a balances and objective assessment of the company’s strategy and objectives.

Necessary experience:

Hands-on and problem-solving attitude, proactivity and flexibility is key, to be able to deal with changing priorities and agenda.

Bachelor Certified financial expert or studies at a university of Fachhochschule with a focus on finance.

At least 7+ years’ relevant working experience.

Several years of Controller experience in a bank or financial service company.

Experience with finance systems (SAP) and Swiss corporate reporting (Swiss GAAP FER).

Self-motivated and ambitious person with great adaptability.

Demonstrated commitment to optimizing and promoting innovation in financial policies, processes, practices, and systems.

Native German and fluent English.

We are exclusively recruiting for an established high growth enterprise software and hardware company in the smart energy / clean tech / energy transition sector. Established in 2014 with 50 FTE and head quartered in Lausanne where this position is based, we are searching for an exceptional CTO who can lead a team of 10 tech professionals.

This opportunity is ideal for a high performing and hands-on CTO with an entrepreneurial drive to ensure the company exceeds its mission to become a worldwide market leader. You will be part of the executive management team to ensure strong growth and help take the company to the next level.

You will take full ownership of technology development, product architecture, technical output, technical strategy and roadmap, and oversee our technical teams.

Key to this role is a thorough understanding of complex technology solutions covering combined hardware and software.

You will be expected to collaborate proactively with all business functions, including playing a strong role in prioritising sales focus. Taking the customer perspective is essential for delivering on our core values of co-creation, simplification and empowerment.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the leadership team to drive, establish, and implement short and long-term goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures for all aspects of the business.

• Measure and track performances in all technical key functions of the company.

• Manage all technical resources across the product cycle

• Elaborate industrial systems and their implementation in an electrical environment (IT vs OT)

• Understand and drive the entire product development process, including resource planning, release management, documentation and scaling principles

• Own the transcription of business requirements into technical requirements

• Define and develop customised technical solutions for key customers, including ensuring successful project delivery

Desired qualifications

• Solution experience (combined hardware and software) in B2B

• Deep understanding of market direction and product development strategy, complex IoT architecture prioritisation and trade-offs

• Good understanding of standardisation, system architectures and middleware

• Strong strategic agility but willing and able to delve into the operational (hands-on)

• Strategic thinker who knows how to apply knowledge of business and organisation in decision-making and understands the interaction of multiple functions and how decisions impact them

• Strong team player with the highest integrity and ethical values, and open-minded, entrepreneurial mindset, and high levels of energy/enthusiasm

• Ideal if you have knowledge in electrical engineering, energy management systems (SCADA, ADMS, AMI) and grid operations technologies but not essential.

The company which was established in 2017 has developed an industry-leading technology platform for enterprise in the Smart Energy space with a current team of 12 based in central Stuttgart. After a lot of early success and investment the company is scaling and require a CFO to join as the third and final member of management team, reporting to the board.

Key Responsibilities: As the CFO, you will build a lean financial organization to support this fast-growing business and you will shape operations around the newly established supply chain. Driving the companies’ long-term vision and preparing for further fast-paced growth.

• Make optimal strategic and operational decisions by providing sound financial analysis and a toolset for strategic planning.

• Establish minimal but effective processes to cover routine administrative tasks.

• Own the operational and financial aspects of their supply chain from demand planning to procurement and logistics.

• Oversee the legal framework between the company, suppliers and customers.

• Select, implement and maintain a company-wide financial ERP system, which integrates smoothly with their SaaS landscape.

The role:

  • Scouting and developing new investment opportunities for the fund in the German market related to energy system transition technology.
  • Contribute to the execution of potential investments through all stages of the process, including initial screening, assessing companies, markets and technologies, and deal execution.
  • Work with the Fund team to add value in critical areas of leadership, strategy, business development and fund raising for our German portfolio companies.
  • Share sector insights and expertise in the field of the European energy transition.
  • Build our brand and relationships with key stakeholders such as VC firms, thought leaders, corporate executives and advisors.

Requirements:

  • Significant entrepreneurial experience as a founder or senior executive in a growth stage technology company; exposure to raising and investing venture capital appreciated.
  • Forward looking, demonstrated willingness to take personal risk, visible: recognized as a leader in the energy/tech sector.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with an ability to work well within a team, effectively interact with stakeholders with diverse backgrounds as well as with a variety of people in the field.
  • 15+ years of overall experience, including at least 5 years of (corporate) venture capital and/or entrepreneurial experience.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent communication and presentation skills in English and German.
